Department of Labor Orders Jollibee to Regularize 500 Workers

Jollibee Will Regularize Workers


The Department of Labor and Employment released its orders to Regularize at Least 500 Workers in its Difference Branches.

DOLE said it issued the order after it found the nine branches in the region to be engaged in labor only contracting activities in addition the Department of Labor regional office also ordered Jollibee Fooods Corp. and its contractors to pay unauthorized deductions totaling 775,050 Pesos to the affected employees including its proof of remittances with the SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-Ibig to secure workers' social welfare benefits.

The compliance order issued by Department of Labor were 3 Jollibee branches in Puerto Princesa City in Palawan, 5 in Oriental Mindoro, and 1 in Romblon. Jollibee which is the one of the Largest Fast Food in the Philippines has more than 750 stores in the Philippines. The Department of Labor pointed out the Jollibee and its 3 Contractors should regularize employees who it said were found to be performing activities which are directly related to its fast food chain operations.

The Department of Labor regional labor inspectors saw violations including the lack of substantial capital of the contractors. They noted the deployed employees use the principal's equipment and tools in performing the outsourced services. Worse, the DOLE said it found non-compliance by the contractors with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) standards, due to the lack of trained safety officers and failing to submit OSH reports. The Department of Labor ordered Jollibee Foods Inc. and its contractors to immediately issue appointment letters and payroll reflecting the entitlements of the affected workers as regular employees.
